What is a Healthy Nutrition Plan?

By

Experts from all around the world have argued for decades about what constitutes a healthy nutrition plan. Coming up with a healthy nutrition plan for all ages and lifestyles has been something that current United States government administration has been very concerned with, in particular trying to come up with healthy nutrition plans that can start from a young age, thereby reducing childhood obesity. With the ever rising rates of obesity in the United States, many different government agencies and private agencies have been working to try and educate the children of America as to healthy nutritional guidelines.

Recently, new nutritional guidelines have been developed to help people get a better idea of what a healthy nutrition plan looks like. These new food guidelines take the shape of a dinner plate, rather than the traditional food pyramid that many people grew up with. On the dinner plate, you can easily see the correct portions of food that you should be eating every day from each food group. The hope for this new food plate model is that more and more Americans will start focusing on the quantity of the food that they eat, and will be better educated to make good and healthy food decisions. Another aim of the current and past administration is to regulate restaurants and compel them to put their nutritional information on their menu.

This allows consumers to easily see the nutritional value and calorie count of any food that they order from a restaurant. Many food establishments are already putting this information up on their websites, but some are resisting the process of putting them on the actual menus that are handed out to their customers. Some states are now enforcing these guidelines, while others have yet to jump on the bandwagon. When it comes to choosing a nutritional plan to lose weight, there are many different types of diets out there on the market. Most nutritional experts agree that losing weight is largely a matter of caloric intake.

Your body processes a certain amount of calories or energy each day just to regulate itself and go through its primary processes. This rate of caloric use is called your metabolic rate. This can differ from person to person, depending on your age, weight, sex, and other health factors. The rate of caloric consumption can be increased by increasing your daily exercise. If you do the math, if you burn more calories per day than you consume, you should lose weight. While this is typically the case, there are sometimes health factors, such as thyroid problems, that can influence this equation. If you're routinely burning more calories than you consume each day without seeing any type of weight loss, it's a good idea to consult with a physician and make sure that you don't have any additional health concerns. There are also many different diets on the market that focus on restricting other nutritional factors.

One of the most popular types of restrictive diets on the market focus on cutting your carbohydrate count. When you're counting your carbs or cutting your carbs, you focus on eliminating many starches, grains, and sugars out of your diet. While most people on this type of diet lose weight, long term results have sometimes been inclusive for people who have reintegrated carbohydrates back into their diet. Other types of weight loss diet plans can include cutting out your fat content, eating non-processed foods, or eating several small meals a day which is designed to boost your metabolic rate. Before you embark on any type of weight loss program, it's a good idea to consult with your doctor and make sure that the program is healthy and safe.

I love the new nutrition guidelines. They are very close to the Fill Your Plate diet that I wrote a HUB about some time ago. Very sensible and easy to follow without a lot of rigmarole! Voted up and useful! :)
